On 18 September 2026, the seminar “CBAM – regulatory framework and challenges for Serbian companies” was held at the premises of the Belgrade Stock Exchange, focusing on the changes that the implementation of the CBAM mechanism brings to Serbian companies and their operations in the European Union market.
The seminar was attended by Assistant Minister of Finance Ognjen Popović, Executive Director of the Belgrade Stock Exchange Lazo Ostojić, Director of BGDX Carbon Miroslav Pivić, John Charalambakis from Fundamental Analytics Carbon Services (FACS), representatives of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as representatives of Serbian companies. The seminar was organised with the support of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the participation of Serbian companies that are already experiencing the impact of changes in the European regulatory and market environment.
BGDX Carbon d.o.o. was presented as a new company established by the Belgrade Stock Exchange with the support of the Ministry of Finance, with the aim of developing services and solutions in areas related to CBAM and the carbon market.
BGDX Carbon is focused on supporting Serbian companies in understanding new regulatory and market requirements, assessing their exposure related to carbon emissions and future CBAM obligations, as well as the potential impact of these obligations on costs, business planning and competitiveness.
As part of the cooperation between BGDX Carbon and Fundamental Analytics Carbon Services (FACS), participants were introduced to a specialised platform for processing relevant data, analysing exposure and assessing the potential financial impact of CBAM, as well as developments in the carbon market. A practical example demonstrated how the platform works and how companies can use it.
The technical part of the seminar covered the functioning of the EU ETS, the formation of EUA prices and their connection with CBAM, the calculation of embedded emissions and the importance of reliable and verified data. The focus was also on the impact of changes in carbon prices on companies’ financial exposure, costs, business planning and competitiveness.
The seminar provided an opportunity for direct exchange with representatives of the business community on the practical challenges brought by CBAM, the questions companies are facing and the ways in which they can prepare for the new requirements in a timely manner.
The aim of the event was to help Serbian companies better understand the regulatory and market changes brought by CBAM, as well as the opportunities to prepare for new obligations in a timely manner, better assess their impact on business operations and maintain competitiveness in the European Union market.
